A Human Rights Lawyer, Barr Ifeanyi Ejiofor has stressed the need for operatives of Udogachi Security Outfit to embrace discipline, constitutional restraint and legal compliance.
Barr Ejiofor’s call was contained in an open letter he sent to the Anambra State Governor, Prof Charles Soludo dated 7 September 2026, a copy of which was made available to Authority Newspaper.
He said that his intervention is neither intended to undermine the legitimate security architecture nor to impugn the integrity of the many disciplined men who discharge their duties but an appeal that the legitimate objectives for which the outfit was established must never be permitted to become compromised.
The Human Rights Lawyer noted that the well thought out security outfit can be undermined by the misconduct of individual operatives, commanders, political actors or any other persons who may seek to appropriate a public security instrument for private, political or personal purposes.
Barr Ejiofor, a commentator on National issues, in an eighth point letter to Anambra State Number One man asserted that the need for the operatives to abide by the Anambra State Homeland Security Law, 2025 establishes Agunechemba as a State security outfit.
The legal luminary recalled that on August 16, 2025, a date set for a bye election of Anambra South Senatorial zone, a large contingent of Udo Ga-Achi security operatives descended upon the residence of Engr. Dr. Sir Emeka Okwuosa in a large number of Siena buses and Hilux vehicles.
He alleged that the group violently attempted to gain entry into his compound after firing sporadically into the air for approximately thirty minutes, while brandishing various sophisticated weapons, including cutlasses, AK-47 and AK-49 rifles, as well as charms, on the assertion that electoral materials were being kept at the man’s residence.
Barr Ejiofor who identified other atrocities allegedly committed by the Udogachi Security operatives said that there is urgent need for professional reorientation before the next general elections.
“There is need for particular scrutiny of Command Structures, Recognition of the legitimate purpose of Agunechemba, and the imperative of insulating security from political and personal interest.
“If security operatives become answerable to political patrons rather than to the law, the citizen ceases to know whether the person approaching him in uniform comes as a protector of the law or as an agent of another person’s private interest. That is a dangerous line which no democratic government should permit to be crossed.” Dunu-Ezeugosinachi asserted.
