The FCT College of Education, Zuba, has urged FCT minister, Malam Mohammad Musa Bello to compose governing council for the college as well provide adequate funding to enable it expand the programmes.
At the college second combined convocation over the weekend, the Provost Dr. Muhammad Gambo Hamza, said with the current trend in education sector there was the need to prepare teachers that will be adequately equipped with both knowledge and skills for self reliance.
He appealed to the visitor to evolve measures that would address the issue of running the college without a governing council as well as inadequate resources.
Hamza explained that with funding the school will start work on the technical component such as automobile technology, building, electrical electronics, and metal/wood work.
On the accreditation status, the provost said the college which has existed for the past 23 years has witnessed four visits by the National Commission for colleges of Education (NCCE).
He said the accreditation status is only valid for five years,” The College is now due for the next round of the exercise to maintain quality assurance.
“In line with the minimum standard, we appeal to the visitor for his support towards the recruitment of staff and provision of facilities to meet-up with the 5th round of accreditation exercise” he said.
Hamza explained that, over the years, FCT College has suffered the challenge of poor and limited infrastructure, but he said the present administration has confronted the challenges with determination by making efforts to improve the level of infrastructure and expand facilities to meet the growing challenges on campus.
Also, the provost said: “Academic visitations were undertaken and Memorandum of Understanding on academic collaboration were signed with the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria to commence bachelor degree programmes in some departments from 2019/2020 Academic session. We have received approval from the National University Commission”.
On his part, the FCTA permanent secretary, Sir Chineaka Christian Ohaa, expressed concern over the backlog of graduands of the institution who had completed their NCE programmes, from 2010 to date, while calling on the management to work harder at ensuring that convocation and other such important activities of the college are not delayed.
The second combined convocation covered 12,969 graduands who had graduated from the school for the past 10 years.
