The Nigerian woman, Busari Peace, who was offered for sale by a Lebanese, Wael Jerro on Facebook, has been rescued by the federal government.
Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, yesterday, said the woman is safe and now at the Nigerian Mission in Beirut, Lebanon.
There has been reports of how one Wael Jerro placed an advertisement on his Facebook ooat for the sale of the victim with her Nigerian International passport for a price tag of $1,000.
The now-deleted Facebook post generated outrage from several Nigerians and other nationals.
Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa had announced the arrest of Jerro in Lebanon by the Lebanese government, but did not give detals.
The Chairman of NIDCOM, in a Tweet, said, “Update on Nigerian girl put up for sale by a Lebanese, Wael Jerro, on Facebook. She has been rescued and safely with officials of the Nigerian Mission in Beirut.”
Her tweets did not explain whether or not Jerro had been taken into custody and if he would be prosecuted.
