Kebbi: FUBK lecturer urges students to desist from inflammatory speeches to any religion, ethics groups

The Head of Department of Geography in Federal University Birnin Kebbi ,Kebbi State, Dr. Zuni Aminu has urged students to desist from inflammatory speeches which may be disrespectful to any religion or ethics group.

Aminu made the assertion during Welcome Address for 2019/2020 New Students at the 2nd Department Orientation Programme in Birnin Kebbi yesterday.

” I urge you to be sensitive to religious matters ,be tolerant and avoid speech or actions which may be regarded as inflammatory or disrespectful to any religion or ethics group.

” The social media has many benefits, it has more often than not been used to achieve questionable motive. Avoid inflammatory posts and sharing nude pictures of yourself or others “, she said.

She said university has zero tolerance for immorality under any guise. similarly, offences relating to drug abuse/sale,
theft, fighting, cultism ,examination malpractice are punishable by expulsion as the case may be ,he urged the students to be good ambassador of the department and the university.

” We call you to respect the culture and traditions of your host community, avoid spaghetti straps ,cleavage bearing tops ,tight clothes ,sagging trousers ,loud makeup, coloured hair, obscene haircut etc,Remember you are addressed by the way you dress ”, she said.

The HOD advised the students to actively participate in class activities ,organised tutorials for themselves and guide each other to success. Consult your level advisers for guide .

” We urge you to consult your hand book be a constant companion to you throughout your stay in school. The rules and regulations contained in the student handbook are designed to guide you as a map guides in the school ”, she said.

She added that students would be guided by the philosophy of Federal University Birnin Kebbi for a smooth and successful academic journey. This philosophy seeks to develop you through academic and practical knowledge, build you as social beings possessing the requisite skills and expertise to live as responsible citizens in the larger society.

Aminu further said the Head of Department, level adviser and all other staff of the department are committed to the welfare of students and our doors are always open to students.

Earlier ,the Faculty Examination Officer, Dr. Abdullahi Umar advised students to shun drug abuse and all vices related to drug addiction and abuse.

Umar added that the students should resist against any temptation for indulging in undesirable behavior and practices such as as cultism, examination misconduct and poor attendance of lectures and other related offences.
