The Nigerian Union of Journalist, (NUJ) Kogi State Council election scheduled for 9th of April 2020 in Kogi State has been postponed due to CoronaVirus pandemic.
The postponement was contained in a press statement signed by the 2020 credential committee Chairman of the state council election, Ebenezer Adurodija, Grace Ben Kato the Secretary respectively.
The statement stressed “In view of the COVID-19 pandemic situations in the country, the Kogi State Council elections scheduled to hold on Thursday, 9 April, 2020, has been put on hold.”
“The election which was designed to usher in a new State Executive Council of the Union in the State according to the statement was put on hold due to the present CoronaVirus pandemic in the Country and after due consultation with the National body of the Union.
“A new date for the election would be announced in due course after the lockdown situations in the CoronaVirus proned cities might have been relaxed and consultations with relevant stakeholders.”
“Meanwhile, the National Secretariat of the Union has directed that the Present State Executive Council should continue to run the affairs of the Union until the processes of elections are successfully concluded.”
The statement further called on working Journalists in Kogi State to remain calm, stay safe and observe personal and environmental hygiene as they go about their professional duties.
