Waansanigeria calls for local government autonomy

West African Action Network on Small Arms Nigeria (Waansanigeria) has urged in the recent review of the constitution, that Local Governments should be made a tier of government with a uniform tenure, calling for more autonomy at that level to address the emergencies in their Local Council Areas.

In a paper presented by its Operation Executive Director. Mr. Endurance Eda Fewotu said at the 2021 International Day of Peace that an empowered local government will have capacity to have the spread and sharing information to prevent more negative impact of
pandemic hence for Nigeria to demonstrate exemplary commitment to this year United Nations items of establishing initiative to help recover, empowered local government need to be considered.

The President of West African Action Network on Small Arms Nigeria (Waansanigeria) Temitope Lamidi reiterated in her opening remarks that Covid -19 increased global conflict as appreciable number of population lost jobs and means of sustaining livelihood which increased conflict infiltration of small arms and light weapons hence the concern of waansanigeria and relevant non governmental organizations to unite toward strengthening action towards embracing initiative to recover better for a sustainable world.
