Greater Igbo Forum condemns inhuman treatment of widow in Anambra

Story Lois Jonathan

Greater Igbo Forum,  has condemned the indecent and inhuman treatment meted out to Ajuese, a widow in Aguleri Anambra state.

The organisation, with headquarters in Abuja and branches in Nigeria, said a viral video which showed the inhuman treatment was is in bad taste, painful, dehumanizing and disgraceful to womanhood.
In the video the widow is seen walking naked in the town while villagers made jest of her.

The Great igbo forum women wing said, “We condemn this dehumanizing exposure of the said widow by the villagers by making her walk naked in the town while people booed at her .

“In our country where the present government both at state and federal level claim to respect the rule of law and respect for human dignity this must not go unpunished. The era of resorting to jungle justice for whatever purported crime is over.

“Ajuese should have been handed over to the police to answer for whatever crime she’s been accused of proper investigation. We have laws guiding us in the land and these laws must be respected. The lawful authorities have swung into action already and should bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime against humanity and womanhood to book. We must see this happen.

“We lend our voices in condemning this abominable and inhuman act of stripping a woman naked publicly. This barbaric act must end in Igboland and indeed our country
“We greater Igbo forum women wing call on the Governor of Anambra state, Members of the State Assembly and National Assemblies especially the women Senator Uche Ekwunife, Stella Oduah, and Hon. Lynda Ikeapzu. To raise and protect women against this dehumanizing act.”
We are also happy that action has been taken by Sen. Stella Oduah got a quick response to the cry of this poor lady we are still calling other lawmakers to lay their voices to be heard.
