2023: Why Peter Obi should be Nigeria’s next president- Middlebelt Youth Council

Less than a year to the general elections, the Middlebelt Youth Council Worldwide has called on all political parties especially the two major ones in the country (the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to in the interest of “fairness, equity and justice zone the presidency to the South-Eastern part of the country.

The Group also said that in the spirit of unity all critical statesmen should support the candidature Peter Obi for the Presidency presidential candidate from the South East.

It advised some politicians in the country making “unguarded and inflammatory utterances” to desist ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The Group’s position was disclosed by its President, Comrade Emmanuel Zopmal, in Jos, the Plateau State Capital.

Zopmal said, “That for the purpose of fairness, equity, and justice, PDP and APC should relinquish their tickets to the South Eastern part of the country.

According to him, “Middle Belt youths have an unflinching support for Mr Peter Obi’s presidential ambition and we’re going to mobilize delegates from our region to massively vote for him during the presidential primary election.

“Mr Obi has a very clean track record when he was managing corporate organisations and as Executive Governor of Anambra State. Such records have earned him our respect and solidarity.

“More so, Mr Peter Obi has passion for the progress of youths; as he has been a friend of the youths all through his political career”, he explained.

“Therefore, he deserves the full support of all Nigerian youths particularly the Middle Belt youths”, he stressed..

“Also, in the spirit of uniting this country, it is good if all critical statesmen to support a presidential material from the South East who has the experience, political acumen, sound economic knowledge, and acceptability across the country to lead this country in 2023.

“The only way to find lasting political stability in this country, the relevant security agencies should advise some politicians to stop unguarded and inflammatory utterances on the 2023 general elections.

“We urge political parties in Nigeria to be agents of national unity and progress by shifting their presidential tickets to the South.

“This rotation is imperative, and I have said it clearly, there is no zone in this country where you won’t get capable hands to govern this nation, so since the South-East have not tasted, they should be given the opportunity”, the Group stressed.

Meantime, ahead of the forthcoming political parties’ primary elections, the Group has called on all political parties to allow a fair playground for all contestants who are acceptable to Nigerians to get the tickets of their parties.

“There is no shortcut to democracy. Political parties have a key role in giving Nigeria quality leaders that can truly unite this country and move it forward. We sue for peaceful and credible primary elections ahead”, the Group maintained.

The Group also sympathise with the families of victims of the train attack along Abuja-Kaduna road which claimed many lives and left many others injured.
