Why we cannot bomb terrorists’ hideouts – FG

Despite widespread  demand for the federal government to declare a full fledged war against terrorists, the federal government has maintainmed that it cannot bomb the terrorists in the hideout forests, claiming that carrying out such attacks would also mean harming innocent citizens who live in their midst

It would be recalled that Governor Nasir El’rufai of Kaduna state has continued to blame the Nigerian military for their inability to declare full war on the terrorists.

El’rufai had earlier stated that government is very much aware of the location of the terrorists, but have refuse to take the war to their base, a situation he lamented has made the terrorists to continue to carry out their activities which has led to killing of several Nigerians

The Kaduna state Governor threatened further that the continued delay by the federal government in declaring full was against terrorists would force the North West governors to seek for an alternative way to defend its citizens, adding that the zone may hire mercinert soldiers to attack and flush terrorists out of its forests

The Federal government, while reacting to the demand for a total war to be declared against the terrorists, said it would be difficult to bomb forests where bandits terrorizing parts of the country are camping.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who stated during a radio  programme that was monitored at the weekend, said bombing the forest would be impossible due to innocent people living around the bandits.

Reacting, the Minister stated that Nigerian security forces are far better than the mercenaries, saying the governor spoke out of deep concern.

He said, “Governor El-Rufai spoke out of a deep concern about the situation. He might have spoken out because of the circumstances in which the bandits are emboldened to operate.

“The mercenaries cannot be compared with our security forces; the fight against bandits is a difficult one because of the terrain.

“We cannot just go with full force to bomb them or else innocent people living around them will be killed and we don’t want that to happen”.
