The Federal Government has launched a public safety alert system to help keep security operatives and the public abreast on the happenings in the society.

The minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola during the launch and flag off in Abuja on Thursday, said the initiative was to bring about timely alert of the security agencies to incidents of crimes, breach of security and natural disasters before they happen.

He explained that the  technological innovation works with the smart mobile phone or any other devise with android or IOS capability, to send alerts to all security agencies.

Aregbesola said the plan was in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s led  administration policy of making the security of lives and property of Nigerians a priority.

“It is also part of the objective of leveraging on Information and Communication Technology, in doing government business and operations”

He described the launching/ flag-off of the app as laudable and timely baby of the Ministry of Interior, the Nigeria Internal Security and Public Safety Alert System ((NISPSAS) mobil.

“The nation is facing myriads of security challenges including insurgency, terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery and banditry, ritual killing, cattle rustling, herdsmen and farmers clashes, homicide, inter-communal clashes, gender based violence and electoral violence, among others. Then we have natural disasters like flooding, fire, erosion landslide and land depression, among others.

“Most regrettably, the heightening security challenge is a global phenomenon that has been accentuated since the outbreak of COVID-19 following the unleashing of the psychic build-up resulting from the lockdown and restrictions put on movements, trades and business.

“The halt in economic activities affected corporate, family and individual incomes, creating situations of deprivation that led to frustration and ultimately led to aggression.

The government has committed and continue to commit unprecedented amount of resources to addressing security, with personnel and equipment”
