The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared that a total of 87.2m voters are expected vote at Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly
INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who made the declaration at a press conference at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja on Thursday stated that lagos state still retains its top position with the highest of collected PVC, while Kano state followed with Kaduna, Katsina and Rivers states
According a breakdown by INEC,while Lagos has 6.214 million voters, Kano, 5.5 million, Kaduna 4.16 million, Katsina, 3.45 million, Rivers, 3.28 million, just as Ekiti state remained the least with 958,052.
Professor Yakubu also disclosed that the Commission may postpone the Enugu east senatorial election, following the killing of the candidate of the Labour Party on Wednesday,
He however added that such postponement can only happen if the affected political party officially demands for that, saying the commission can rely on the provisions of Section 34 of the Electoral Act
Yakubu said, “there are procedures to handling such issue. In such situation, the commission will have to countermand the senatorial district for two weeks. The section can only be activated if the party involved officially notifies the commission.
“Section 34(b) stipulates that in the case of election into a legislative House, the election shall start afresh and the political party whose candidate died may, if it intends to continue to participate in the election, conduct a fresh primary within 14 days of the death of its candidate and submit the name of a new candidate to the Commission to replace the dead candidate:
