Violence mar gubernatorial elections

Aaron Otonnah Jr

Violence was the order of the day in some parts of the country as Nigerians went to the polls to elect their state governors and state house of assembly representatives on Saturday, March 18th, 2023.
Voters were seen scuppering for safety as residents released their dogs to pursue some suspected elections riggers who were undermining the electoral process.
The voting exercise in some places like the Junction of 22 Akanu Ohafia Avenue Street as well as 38 Best Avenue Street, close to Ago Palace Way in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State witnessed thugs invasion, shooting, ballot boxes snatching, and in some polling units, it was outright manipulation in the full glare of security agencies.

Some of the voters and residents were running as the police shut severally and the process a man was shut.
Apparently worried about the invasion, one of the residents was shouting: ” they have entered our estate, they are shooting.’
Another resident was ordering his dogs to pursue the thugs. ” Pursue them, look at them, pursue them.”
They accused the security agencies of aiding the political thugs to undermine the electoral process to favour a particular party in the state.
