May 29: GPMI Calls for sustenance of democracy

  • Commends COAS, IGP other security chiefs
  • Warns mischief makers

Nigerians have been called to see May 29 as yet another opportunity to renew our faith and commitment to the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria and our position as a leading democratic nation in Africa

This call was made by the The President General Global Peace Movement International, UK, Dr Mike Uyi in London.

He said elections have come and gone, another set of leaders have been democratically elected to govern our the country and it is our duty to give them all the necessary cooperation to enable them deliver their plans towards transforming Nigeria into the country of our dreams.

According to him, all hands must be on deck, and Nigerians must hold the government accountable to ensure that it delivers on its mandates and campaign promises.

“We are just coming out of the elections, politics is over and its now time for governance.

“Politicians who have been elected need to know that they have new jobs and they have to deliver on their campaign promises and citizens need to hold these leaders who made promises to account,” he said.

Uyi also warn mischief makers to avoid all manner of activities that will drag the country into any form of anarchy.

The President General in the same development also thanked the Army Chief, Lt.Gen. Faruk Yahaya for defending democracy and ensuring that the Army didn’t have any reason to truncate democracy.

Uyi also thanked the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali for his professionalism in policing Nigeria.

Uyi said he believes that the combination of COAS and the IGP in conjunction with other security chiefs will ensure a successful handover on May 29.
