6 students of KOMU bag first class

..Senate says zero tolerance to indiscipline, sanctions 5 students

The Imo State government owned Kingsley Ozuomba Mbadiwe University (KOMU), Ogboko in Ideato North Local Government Area of the State has been agog with pomp and pagentry, following the announcement by the University Senate that 6 of the second graduating students of the Institution bagged first class Honours Degree even as 5 other students received sanctions for acts of indiscipline, as the Senate says the University has zero tolerance to indiscipline as a marching order.

According to a statement endorsed by, Prof Ikechukwu Dozie, the University’s Vice Chancellor and made available to news men on Friday, “the Senate of Kingsley Ozuomba (K.O.) Mbadiwe University Ideato at her eight (8th) meeting held on Tuesday 30th January, 2024 approved the degree results of 104 students of the 2018/2019 set who had successfully completed their studies.

“A breakdown of the result showed that six (6) students bagged the First Class (Hons.) degree, 52 students graduated with Second Class (Hons.) degree (Upper division), 44 students with Second Class (Hons.) degree (Lower division) and three (3) students had Third Class degree.

“The best graduating student is Ihezie, Ugochukwu Stephen of the Department of Political Science with a CGPA of 4.75. The first batch of these graduates were mobilized during the NYSC “Batch C, Stream 2” exercise which took place in November, 2023. The remaining batch have been successfully processed and ready for mobilization for the 2024 NYSC “Batch A” exercise which will commence in February 2024” he assured.

Dozie attributed this positive development to the massive support by the Visitor to the institution, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State, who he says is committed to the overall development of the education sector for quality human capacity empowerment as well as the hard work, commitment, courage and resilience of both the staff and students.

In a related development, the Vice Chancellor also pointed out that the University Senate in her determination to drive the mission of producing talented men and women who would become future leaders of the society, further approved the rustication of five (5) students for the 2023/2024 academic session for acts of major misconduct and issued a letter of warning to one (1) student for minor misconduct.

He re-affirmed that the young institution is committed to changing the narrative in public universities in Nigeria through quality policy execution such as sustenance of stable academic calendar (uninterrupted study) and timely graduation.

Dozie further highlighted other academic excellence achieved under his watch by the great Institution to include; timely processing and release of results, issuance of academic transcript and degree results on graduation, timely mobilization of graduates for NYSC, deployment of innovative technology for teaching and learning and research.

Other factors he said that made the University an academic giant before it peers include accredited programmes; impressive facilities for teaching and learning; dynamic curricula which emphasize entrepreneurship/skill acquisition and leadership education driven by innovative technology; comfortable accommodation (2 students per room ensuite).

The Erudite Scholar also re-emphasised that rich student diversity; smart campus layout, safe and secure with amazing ambience; accommodating host communities and experienced management team underscore her steady march to be a first-class institution as strategic fundamental factors that makes the University a first choice for any student that wants efficient, effective and qualitative education.
