The passing of His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has been described as a profound national loss by Senator Basheer Lado, Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters. In a heartfelt tribute, Senator Lado shared his personal experiences with the late President, highlighting his patriotism, integrity, and devotion to Nigeria’s unity and progress.
According to Senator Lado, former President Buhari was more than a leader; he was a father figure, mentor, and trusted family friend. The late President’s guidance, wisdom, and unwavering belief in Senator Lado’s potential left an indelible mark on his life and career. Senator Lado recalled the late President’s thoughtfulness and graciousness when he joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), sending a personal letter of congratulations despite being unable to attend the welcome ceremony.
Senator Lado also shared his experiences working with President Buhari on national assignments, including serving as Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, and Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). He highlighted the late President’s visionary support and genuine concern for the most vulnerable among Nigerians, citing the resettlement cities project initiated during his tenure.
The Senator also recalled President Buhari’s connection with his family, including his friendship with his late uncle, General Sani Abacha, GCFR. He shared a personal anecdote about the late President’s condolences call after his mother’s passing, demonstrating his humility and compassion.
