…Announces Subsidy for Commercial Agric, As Distribution Monitors Swing into Action
In a renewed effort to secure Kaduna’s food future and uplift rural communities, Governor Uba Sani has launched a massive fertilizer distribution programme benefiting 100,000 smallholder farmers across the state.
The initiative, unveiled at the Government House in Kaduna, includes the free distribution of two bags of fertilizer per farmer under the smallholder category. For commercial farmers, a targeted subsidy scheme will allow them to purchase fertilizer at 40% below market price—a move the government says will stimulate agribusiness growth and create jobs across the agricultural value chain.
To ensure transparency, Governor Uba Sani also inaugurated a multi-stakeholder Fertilizer Distribution Committee, comprising representatives from the public and private sectors, civil society, religious and traditional institutions, labour unions, security agencies, and anti-corruption bodies.
“This effort is not just about inputs,” said Murtala Dabo, Commissioner of Agriculture, who signed the official statement. “It’s about transforming livelihoods, securing our food systems, and building climate resilience.”
In a major first, the government will also enroll all 100,000 smallholder farmers into a crop risk insurance scheme. This guarantees protection against pest infestations, diseases, and extreme weather—challenges that continue to threaten farming communities across Nigeria due to climate change.
Agricultural stakeholders have lauded the move as a game-changer for food security and a powerful example of people-centered governance.
With over 300 truckloads of fertilizer set to be deployed, Kaduna State is positioning itself at the forefront of Nigeria’s agricultural revival—anchored not only in policy, but in practical, transparent, and inclusive action.
