INEC affirms Gabam-led SDP executives as authentic leadership

By Mercy Aikoye, Abuja

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam-led national executives of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as the authentic leadership of the party. This affirmation came in response to a request from the Nigeria Police Force.

A faction of the SDP had suspended Gabam and two other members, appointing Dr. Sadiq Abubakar Gombe as Acting National Chairman. However, Gabam disputes this suspension.

INEC’s letter to the police confirmed the list of national executives elected at the SDP’s national convention on June 8, 2022. “Please find attached the list of the National Executive of the Social Democratic Party as requested,” the letter reads.

Gabam commended the police for seeking clarification from INEC. “We appreciate the Nigeria Police Force for taking the appropriate action,” he said.

Gabam cautioned those parading themselves as NWC members outside the INEC-authenticated list to stop. “The appropriate security agencies would arrest them for impersonation and be prosecuted,” he warned.

The SDP under Gabam’s leadership remains committed to providing platforms for good governance. “We will continue to work towards providing a better future for Nigerians,” Gabam emphasized.

INEC’s confirmation of Gabam’s leadership underscores the commission’s role in ensuring party compliance with constitutional provisions.

The list of national executives includes:

  1. Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam – National Chairman
  2. Dr. Olu Agunloye – National Secretary
  3. Amb. Rufus B. Aiyenigba – National Publicity Secretary
  4. Hon. Obinna Bright Ekwebelem – South East Zone Secretary

INEC’s affirmation of Gabam’s leadership provides clarity on the SDP’s authentic leadership. The party’s commitment to good governance will be crucial in determining its future success.

The list of national executives also includes:

  1. Barr. Joseph Abu – National Organizing Secretary
  2. Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdullahi – National Speaker, Women
  3. Dr. Aderemi Abimbo – National Legal Adviser

The Nigeria Police Force requested INEC’s clarification on the SDP’s leadership amid internal disputes.

INEC responded by confirming Gabam’s leadership, providing a list of national executives elected at the SDP’s national convention.

The SDP’s unity and commitment to good governance will be essential in navigating future challenges.

With INEC’s affirmation, the SDP can focus on its goals and objectives, working towards a better future for Nigerians.

The importance of authenticity in party leadership cannot be overstated, as it ensures stability and credibility.

The SDP’s future success will depend on its ability to work together and adhere to constitutional provisions.
