2027: Bwacha raises alarm over Taraba’s N800bn debt, vows to unseat Gov Kefas

From Celestine Ihejirika, Jalingo

Senator Emmanuel Bwacha has vowed to unseat the incumbent Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, after emerging as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Bwacha also expressed concern over the state’s debt profile, which he claimed has risen to over N800 billion.

The former senator disclosed this while speaking with newsmen shortly after he was declared winner of the PDP governorship primary election in Taraba State on Monday.

He stated that with the conclusion of the party primaries, the stage was now set for the 2027 political contest, stressing that the mistakes witnessed during the 2023 general election would not be repeated.

According to him, the wealth of Taraba State should not be controlled by a few individuals.

Bwacha further alleged that federal allocations received by the state in the last three years could not be accounted for, accusing the current administration of financial mismanagement and lack of transparency.

“In his words, Taraba residence were demanding change due to a lack of transparency, the resources of the state all been squandered and for that reason I offer myself to rise to the challenge” he said.

He noted that the hardship currently faced by residents of the state was a result of poor management of public resources, which he described as being fueled by high-level corruption within the system.

The PDP governorship candidate assured the electorate that, if elected into office in 2027, his administration would focus on revitalising critical sectors and restoring sanity in governance.

He listed education, healthcare, security, pension, public works and tourism among his priority areas, adding that his administration would dismantle what he described as a monopolised system of governance and create equal opportunities, particularly in the mining sector.

Bwacha also pledged to introduce deliberate policies aimed at restoring Taraba State’s pride among its counterparts across the country.
