Bauchi State Chapter of the police officers wives association, (POWA), has joined the rest of the world to commemorate the 2026 international widows day, with a pledge for renewed support for women who lost their husbands in the line of duty.
The day, with the theme, ” Justice, Dignity and Economic Empowerment for Police Widows” was celebrated in collaboration with north east development commission (NEDC), Wunti Al-khair Foundation, and Fidelity Bank.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chairperson, POWA, Bauchi State Chapter, Hajiya Fatima Sani-Omolori Aliyu reaffirmed the association’s commitment to empowering police widows through skills acquisition and entrepreneurship training, to enable them become self-reliant and productive members of the society.
Police statement from the PRO, SP Nafiu Habib, said the chairperson appreciated the CP, Mr Sani-Omolori Aliyu, for his continuous support to POWA programs and for prioritizing the welfare of officers and their families.
Hajiya Sani-Omolori Aliyu also appreciated the NEDC, Wunti Al-khair Foundation, and Fidelity Bank, for their unwavering support, commitment and sponsorship.
During the occasion, some empowerment packages were presented to widows of fallen heroes across the command such as point of sale(POS) machines, bags of rice and sugar, and cartons of vegetable oil, among others.
“The gesture is aimed at bringing succour and showing appreciation for the sacrifices made by your late husbands in maintaining peace and security in Bauchi state and Nigeria at large,” she noted.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Lois Maje Bala expressed gratitude to POWA, the sponsors and the command for remembering them, describing the gesture as timely and encouraging.
The occasion featured lecture, interactive session and goodwill messages delivered by representatives of the sponsors.
The CP, Mr Sani-Omolori Aliyu, represented by DCP Musa Bulus commended POWA and assured that the command will continue to partner with the association to ensure that no widow of a fallen officer is abandoned.
