Osumoghu community in Ihiala LGA of Anambra State was over the weekend thrown into jubilation as military personnel raided terrorist’s camps in the community.
The operation was said to be carried out by the troops of the 185 Battalion, Lilu also in Ihiala LGA of the State under the Command of Lieutenant Colonel Sunday Laleyi.
Field operations coordinated by a Lieutenant reportedly targeted camps and hideouts allegedly occupied by armed groups who had previously taken control of parts of the community.
A resident who pleaded for anonymity praised the Military for a very successful operation in the community noting that the raid would instill confidence in the persons who had run away from the community to return home.
“The Military has proven her mettle, infact some of the gunmen who had held the people hostage for a very long time started running away the moment they heard about the establishment of Battalion in the neighbouring town.
“For us, the raid on the hideouts of the armed group is an icing on the cake, because the armed elements have destroyed everything that made our community thick,” he said.
The resident who is relatively advanced in age appealed to all the people of the community and neighboring towns who ran away to escape the onslaught of the criminal elements to return home noting that it is a new day in Osumoghu.
During the operation, troops reportedly discovered and destroyed several suspected criminal camps and shrines, neutralised explosive devices allegedly planted by the armed group.
Troops also reportedly recovered materials suspected to have been used in the fabrication of improvised explosive devices.
