The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has reaffirmed the Corps’ strategic importance in Nigeria’s security framework, describing its role as unique and indispensable to national stability and development.

Audi made the assertion on Tuesday while declaring open a two-day strategic training programme on the implementation of operational deliverables and research methodology at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.

According to a statement issued by the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commandant of Corps Babawale Afolabi, the training is aimed at enhancing the capacity of personnel in research, innovation and digitalization to improve operational effectiveness and service delivery.

Speaking at the event, the NSCDC boss highlighted the Corps’ core mandates, including the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, disaster management, intelligence gathering and community engagement.

“This programme is designed to explore and promote the adoption of research methodology and digitalization as critical enablers for achieving the Corps’ operational deliverables in alignment with the Presidential Priorities,” Audi said.

He noted that the initiative underscores the management’s commitment to building institutional capacity through innovation, technology and evidence-based decision-making.

The Commandant General stressed that emerging security threats require officers to go beyond conventional field operations by embracing analytical and research-driven approaches to problem-solving.

“Personnel must acquire the skills needed to identify challenges, conduct research and develop practical solutions. The knowledge gained from this training must translate into measurable improvements in service delivery across all formations of the Corps,” he added.

Earlier, Commandant Peter Okloho, head of Planning, Research and Statistics, reminded participants that the Federal Government evaluates the NSCDC based on its statutory responsibilities and operational outputs. He urged officers to maintain professionalism and apply the knowledge gained during the training in their respective commands.

Also speaking, the Head of the Critical Thinking, Research and Innovation Unit (CTRIU), Dr. Ogunshola Folashade, emphasized the need for security personnel to combine operational competence with critical thinking skills in addressing contemporary security challenges.

She explained that the workshop would focus on implementation strategies for operational deliverables, research methodology, strategic communication, advanced report writing and institutional best practices.

A major highlight of the event was the induction and administration of the Oath of Allegiance to newly appointed CTRIU desk officers by the NSCDC Head of Legal Services, Commandant Bamiyo Akomolafe.

The training, which attracted participants from the 36 state commands, the Federal Capital Territory and various directorates, departments and units at the National Headquarters, ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Assistant Commandant of Corps Gever Victor.
