Tinubu seeks Senate’s confirmation of Marwa as NDDC board member

President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the name of Dr. Zainab Marwa to the Senate for confirmation as a member of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). She is nominated to represent the North-East geopolitical zone.

The nomination is to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of the zone’s former representative, Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas. Namdas stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition in Adamawa State.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio read President Tinubu’s request during Thursday’s plenary. The letter formally conveyed the nomination to the upper chamber for legislative consideration.

In the correspondence, Tinubu stated that the nomination was made under Section 2 of the Niger Delta Development Commission Establishment Act. The section empowers the president to appoint board members subject to Senate confirmation.

The president explained that Marwa’s nomination became necessary after Namdas resigned on March 30, 2026. Tinubu said the appointment is intended to ensure the North-East zone retains its representation and the commission continues to function without disruption.

The letter stated that Dr. Zainab Marwa is being presented “for confirmation by the Senate as member representing the North-East in the Governing Board of the NDDC.” Tinubu expressed hope that the Senate will consider and confirm her appointment.

Following the reading, Akpabio referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission. The committee was mandated to screen the nominee and submit its report within one to two weeks for further deliberation and possible confirmation.

If confirmed by the Senate, Marwa will represent the interests of the North-East geopolitical zone on the NDDC board. She will join other members charged with overseeing the commission’s mandate of facilitating development and infrastructure interventions across the Niger Delta region.
