Tinubu thanks security personnel for sacrifices in fight against terrorism

By Chesa Chesa

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Nigerian troops and other security personnel for their courage, sacrifice, and commitment in the ongoing fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of violent crime across the country.

In a message to frontline security operatives he posted on his X handle Monday, the President praised members of the Armed Forces, describing them as a protective shield between law-abiding citizens and those seeking to undermine the nation’s peace and stability.

Tinubu acknowledged the difficult conditions under which security personnel operate, noting that soldiers and other operatives serve in forests, along highways, at forward operating bases, in the air, creeks, and across challenging terrains to ensure the safety of Nigerians.

“You stand as a shield between innocent citizens and those who seek to destroy the peace, safety, and dignity of our communities,” the President said.

He noted that the fight against terrorism has come with significant sacrifices, including loss of lives, physical hardship, and emotional strain, but commended security personnel for remaining steadfast in the discharge of their duties.

The President extended appreciation to officers and men of the Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), intelligence agencies, local security formations, and all others working to keep the country safe.

He also paid tribute to the families of security personnel, acknowledging the emotional burden they bear through long periods of separation and uncertainty.

“Many of you have endured long absences, anxious nights, and the emotional cost of duty. Nigeria remembers that sacrifice, too,” he said.

Tinubu further honoured security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing them as heroes whose sacrifices continue to resonate in communities rescued from violence and in the preservation of national unity.

The President stressed that combating terrorism and insecurity is not the responsibility of security agencies alone but requires the active support of citizens through timely and credible information sharing.

“The fight against terror is not only a military operation. It is a national duty. Citizens must support our security forces by providing timely, useful information. When you see something, say something. When you know something, report it,” he stated.

Reaffirming his administration’s determination to tackle insecurity, Tinubu declared that Nigeria would not surrender to fear or allow terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and violent extremists to define the nation’s identity.

“We will not allow terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, or violent extremists to define who we are as a people. Their violence is not our identity. Their hatred does not represent Nigerians of any faith, creed, or community,” he said.

The President concluded by expressing gratitude to frontline personnel for their vigilance and dedication, while praying for divine protection over them as they continue to defend the nation.

“Thank you for your courage. Thank you for your vigilance. Thank you for your service. May the Almighty protect you as you protect our country,” he added.
