The Taraba State Civil Service Commission (CSC) has expressed dismay over the conduct of some civil servants accused of falsifying their ages during the recently concluded promotion interview.
The Chairman of the commission, Hon. Philip Kundila, disclosed this in an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Jalingo on Friday.
Condemning the practice, Kundila warned that the state government would no longer tolerate such acts, stressing that civil servants found engaging in age falsification would face disciplinary measures.
He said the commission had put necessary machinery in place to track down those involved, adding that anyone found guilty of the offence risked outright dismissal from the service.
“In fact, looking at their faces, you don’t need to be told that someone who claimed to be born in 1968 will end up present primary school certificate of 1990 with birth certificate tempered just to remain in the civil service even when he is above 60 years, we can’t tolerate that,” he stated.
Speaking on the recent exercise, the chairman also expressed concern over frequent delays by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in submitting lists of civil servants eligible for promotion interviews.
He said the MDAs had consistently contributed to delays in forwarding the names of eligible workers to the commission, citing the previous promotion exercise, which was scheduled to commence in January this year but was eventually held in June 2026, with more than 1,000 eligible workers awaiting promotion.
According to him, the just-concluded exercise, held on Thursday, October 2027, ought to have taken place in July 2026 but suffered a similar delay due to the failure of MDAs to submit the required lists on time. He disclosed that more than 300 civil servants participated in the promotion interview.
Kundila, however, appealed to the MDAs to cooperate with the commission by submitting the names of eligible workers due for promotion promptly to avoid delays in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities.
He also appreciated the board members, management and staff of the commission for their cooperation and support before, during and after the exercise.
