Malam Muhammad Garba Bags Media Icon Award

Kano State Coommissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, has added another feather on his cap as he has been honoured with Media Icon Award by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Malam Garba, who was two-time President of NUJ, received the Award alongside notable media gurus at a ceremony held on Thursday at the Muson Center, Onikan, Lagos.

Other recipients of the prestigious Award included the Publisher of Vanguard Newspapers, Chief Sam Amuka, Chairman of DAAR Communications Chief Raymond, Dokpesi that of Channels Television, Dr. John Momoh, and Publisher of Daily Trust Newspapers, Alhaji Kabiru Yusuf.

Chairman of the occasion, former Governor of Ogun State and Veteran Journalist, Chief Segun Osoba, said the annual media event which was designed by the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), would among others, be honouring top-flight media entrepreneurs who had invested their time, talent and treasures in the media industry.

Chief Osoba then called for the establishment of an active website for registered Journalists in Nigeria as a means of checking intruders.

In his remarks,President of NUJ, Chief Chris Isiguzu,said the recognition was not just for media entrepreneurs alone but also for professionals who had distinguished themselves in the course of their respective duties.

Chief Isiguzo said the NUJ had mapped out strategies to be building the capacity of Journalists in the country for enhanced professionalism.

Chief Dokpesi who spoke on behalf of the recipients, lamented the poor welfare package for Journalists in the country and called for the reversal of the unfortunate trend.
