In line with instruction of Dr Olubunmi Tunji – Ojo, the Minister of Interior, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken swift action against officers accused of extorting ₦5.2 million from a traveler.
This was contained in press statement from CSC Babawale Afolabi, the National Public Relations Officer NSCDC in Abuja on Wednesday.
The Commandant General (CG) of NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has ordered the immediate detention of the alleged officers and a full-scale investigation into the incident. The officers will be taken to the Corps National Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation.
The CG condemned the actions of the officers, describing them as unprofessional and a contravention of the Corps’ Code of Ethics and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). He assured the public that the management of the Corps will await the outcome of the investigation and deal decisively with the officers if found guilty.
The CG NSCDC reassured the public that he will not shield anyone found culpable of corrupt practices or any form of compromise. Instead, they will face appropriate sanctions to serve as a deterrent to others. He urged the public to continue providing necessary information to help the Corps serve them better without fear of intimidation, harassment, or extortion.
