Ninety-eight-year-old Mrs Olufunke Arthur-Worrey has been selected to lead the 2025 Diocese of Lagos Anglican Communion Women and Girls Organisations Archdeaconry fundraiser for charity.
The Archdeaconry Women Leader, Fadeke Oyediran, made this known to the yesterday in Lagos State.
Oyediran said that the fundraiser would be the highlight of the Church’s annual Archdeaconry Women Praise Day.
According to her, the event has the theme, “Let Everything that has Breath Praise the Lord”, and is to celebrate God’s faithfulness in the life of the women.
“This event will hold on Sept. 27 at the St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Breadfruit, Lagos.
“The programme will provides a platform for women to reflect on the archdeaconry’s activities, review its progress and explore ways to expand its impact in the society,” the women leader said.
Oyediran noted that the women’s group aside from five indigent pupils, had Ms Victoria Omoseni, a 22-year-old visually-impaired Student of Queens College, Yaba, Lagos and a homeless woman under its care and support.
“We aim to leverage on Mama Funke Authur-Worrey’s goodwill as the chairperson to raise our stake,” she said.
Oyediran added that the event would be co-chaired by Mrs Abike Ogundeyi.
She said that her group had the confidence that the 2025 edition of the women’s praise day would be a glorious and spiritually uplifting celebration.
“Chief Mrs Funke Arthur-Worrey also known as Aunty Funke is a Nigerian nonagerian royal philanthropist.
“She is a former president of the Ikeja Lioness Club, known for her extensive community service and lifelong commitment to Nigeria.
“Born into the Lagos’ royal family, she holds diplomas in fashion design and social studies, and has served as a trustee for various organisations.
“At 98, she remains an active and articulate figure, known for her love of gardening, reading and for promoting Nigerian culture and unity.
“She was born into the royal Ogunmade Onile Gbale Chieftaincy House of Isale Eko, Lagos, and is the sister of the late Chief H.O. Davies,” Oyediran said.
According to her, several other distinguished guests and dignitaries are expected to attend the event.
