Troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded significant operational successes in a series of coordinated operations across Kaduna State, recovering rustled livestock, arresting suspected bandits and restoring public order in affected communities.

The operations, conducted between June 20 and 21, 2026, form part of ongoing efforts by security forces to combat terrorism, banditry and other criminal activities in the North-West region. The military said the operations disrupted criminal networks and enhanced security in affected areas.

The Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, noting that the troops’ recent achievements reflected sustained offensive and intelligence-driven operations against criminal elements.

According to the statement, troops responded swiftly to credible intelligence on June 20 regarding cattle rustling activities in a community within Kaduna State. Upon making contact with the fleeing criminals, the troops engaged them in a firefight, neutralising two suspected bandits.

The operation led to the recovery of weapons, ammunition and rustled livestock, effectively frustrating the criminal mission and enabling the return of the stolen animals. However, one civilian reportedly lost his life during the incident as a result of the bandits’ actions.

In another operation conducted on the same day, troops on a night patrol intercepted two suspected bandits. A thorough examination of the suspects reportedly uncovered digital materials linking them to terrorist and bandit activities.

The military said the suspects have been taken into custody and are currently undergoing further investigation to determine the extent of their involvement in criminal operations within the region.

Similarly, on June 21, troops conducting a fighting patrol encountered armed criminals who fled into nearby bushes after coming under pressure from advancing soldiers. The troops maintained pursuit and successfully apprehended two suspected bandit scouts.

Items recovered from the suspects included motorcycles and communication devices containing incriminating evidence. Preliminary investigations, according to the military, indicate the suspects were involved in criminal activities, while further inquiries continue.
In a separate development on the same day, troops responded to a civil disturbance in Mararraba community following the mob killing of a female suspect accused of child trafficking.

The violent crowd reportedly attempted to attack public infrastructure and obstruct a major highway before the timely intervention of security personnel. Troops swiftly dispersed the mob, secured critical facilities and restored normal movement for commuters.

Danja stated that the Theatre Commander commended the vigilance, discipline and operational effectiveness displayed by the troops, stressing that ongoing offensive operations would be sustained to further degrade criminal networks and improve security across the region. He also reassured residents of the military’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
