President Bola Tinubu has said the rehabilitation and expansion of roads in Karu area of the Federal Capital Territory, would ease traffic burden, and improve economic activities.
Tinubu stated this during the inauguration of the completed roads within Karu township, on Monday.
Represented by the vice president Kashim Shettima said the project is part of the administration’s interest in providing infrastructure for the people.
Tinubu said the completed project has would reduce travel time, put an end to persistent traffic gridlock and created a friendly business atmosphere.
He praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for driving the rapid transformation of Abuja through the implementation of urban renewal programme.
“For years, the Karu corridor, serving as a critical gateway between the FCT and neighbouring states, suffered severe traffic congestion that drained the productivity and energy of residents.
“Expanding and rehabilitating these roads, we are not just laying asphalt; we are injecting life back into the local economy, and ease the traffic burden” he said.
In his remarks, the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, said the completed roads had transformed the entire Karu landscape and called on residents to acknowledge the government’s efforts irrespective of political affiliation.
Wike also commended the Construction firm, saying the indigenous contractor had demonstrated competence and commitment by sustaining work on the project even before receiving full payment.
On his part, the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, said the project, awarded in August 2025, covers the road linking the Karu Interchange on the Abuja-Keffi Expressway to Customs Clinic Junction, as well as the DSS Road, NIA Road, EFCC Road, Hospital Road and the Old CBN Quarters Road within Karu.
He said the project would improve accessibility, ease traffic movement, strengthen drainage infrastructure and enhance the security of lives and property.
