The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has reaffirmed the Corps’ central role in safeguarding Nigeria’s Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), describing it as vital to national security, crisis management, and economic stability.

Delivering a lecture at the National Defence College, Abuja, titled “Protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure During Crisis Management: Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Perspective,” Professor Audi said the Corps has evolved into a proactive, intelligence-driven agency. He said its approach now combines surveillance, rapid response, stakeholder engagement, and community partnership to protect strategic assets.

According to the CG, NSCDC operations have yielded significant gains in securing oil and gas facilities, power installations, telecoms infrastructure, and transport networks against vandalism, sabotage, crude oil theft, and other emerging threats. He added that protecting these assets has helped keep essential services running and contributed to economic growth.

Professor Audi noted that Nigeria’s security landscape is changing fast, with terrorism, cyber threats, insurgency, and natural disasters putting more pressure on critical infrastructure. He called for stronger legislation, more investment in modern security technology, better inter-agency collaboration, and continuous training to sustain the Corps’ progress.

He stressed that protecting CNAI is a shared national responsibility and is indispensable to Nigeria’s stability, development, and resilience. The Commandant General pledged that the NSCDC will continue to build capacity and deepen partnerships to deliver a safer Nigeria. END
