The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on its members and supporters to remain united ahead of the 2027 general elections following the publication of its presidential and National Assembly candidates by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Jungudo Mohammed, the PDP described the publication of its candidates’ names as a decisive moment that dispelled speculation that the party would be unable to field a presidential candidate.
The party particularly welcomed the publication of the names of its presidential candidate, Senator Professor Sandy Onor, and his running mate, Alhaji Babangida Umar, saying the development confirmed its readiness to contest the 2027 presidential election.
According to the PDP, the INEC publication has “silenced doubters” and ended months of what it described as misinformation aimed at creating uncertainty about the party’s participation in the elections.
The opposition party said the official release of the candidates’ list had vindicated its leadership and demonstrated that due process had prevailed.
The PDP expressed appreciation to its supporters across Nigeria and in the diaspora for remaining steadfast despite sustained political pressure and negative campaigns.
It also commended INEC, the judiciary and security agencies for what it described as their commitment to the rule of law and the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
Reaffirming its commitment to reconciliation and party unity, the PDP appealed to aggrieved members to put aside their differences in the collective interest of the party, stressing that internal cohesion remained critical to its electoral success in 2027.
The party also welcomed returning members and new defectors, describing their decision to join the PDP as a reflection of growing public confidence in its ability to provide an alternative platform for national leadership.
The statement further expressed confidence in the leadership of the party under its National Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara, and National Secretary, Distinguished Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu, saying the PDP remained committed to offering Nigerians “a credible, competent and unifying alternative” capable of restoring hope, strengthening national unity and providing purposeful leadership.
The statement congratulated PDP members nationwide and urged them to remain focused on the task of securing victory in the 2027 general elections.
