By Daniel Tyokua

The newly appointed National General Secretary of the Iyaloja-General Movement for Renewed Hope Alliance (IGM), Mrs. Obiageli Okwubanego, has pledged to strengthen the movement’s nationwide structures and mobilise grassroots support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Okwubanego said her priority would be to build an effective national network capable of engaging market leaders, traders, women’s groups and community stakeholders across the country.

She made the commitment following her appointment by the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Chief Dr. Mujidat Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, on Thursday, October 22, 2026.

Describing the appointment as a demonstration of confidence in her leadership capacity and administrative experience, Okwubanego expressed appreciation to Tinubu-Ojo for the opportunity to serve.

She pledged to bring dedication, professionalism and accountability to the office, while working with the National Director-General, Dr. Nasiru Ladan, the National Working Committee and state coordinators to advance the movement’s objectives.

According to her, strengthening the national secretariat, improving administrative efficiency and establishing effective communication channels across the various structures would be central to achieving the mandate.

She stressed that sustained grassroots engagement and proper coordination were essential to building a formidable political mobilisation platform.

Okwubanego also urged women, traders, market leaders and other stakeholders to participate actively in the democratic process and engage constructively in issues shaping the country’s future.

She said the movement, under the leadership of Tinubu-Ojo, would continue to provide a platform for grassroots participation and the promotion of community interests, while pursuing its stated objective of mobilising support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Okwubanego, popularly known as Oby Okeke-Okwubanego or Madam Obby, is a businesswoman, real estate developer and public official with experience in the private and public sectors.

She currently serves as Senior Special Assistant to Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, on Tax and Investment Mobilisation.

In that capacity, she facilitates engagements between investors and the state government, particularly in investment promotion, diaspora investment and economic development.

Her engagements have included coordinating investment-focused town hall meetings for Anambra indigenes in Lagos and Abuja, as well as representing the state government at international business events, including the India-Nigeria Business Forum.

She reiterated her commitment to working with the movement’s leadership and stakeholders to strengthen its national presence, promote unity and ensure effective coordination.

Okwubanego said her tenure would be guided by accountability, inclusiveness and purposeful service, urging members and state coordinators to close ranks towards achieving the movement’s objectives.
