Polls: Atiku, Tinubu cannot get 25% in FCT – LP declares

The Peter Obi Mandate Group, said no elephant of a man can stop the movement for the emergence of the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate as Nigerian president at February 25 polls.

The National Co-ordinator of the group, Rev. Innocent Chukwudi Peace, made this declaration in an interview with journalists on sidelines of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) presidential campaign rally of the party in Abuja.

Rev. Peace said God has determined the Obi movement, elders and owners of Nigeria have accepted it while the people are yearning for it.

He said: “My message is for Nigerians to keep faith, be determined because God has determined this movement of Peter Obi and the elders and owners of Nigeria have accepted it, then the people are yearning for it.

“So no elephant of a man can stop the movement. The only thing, they will only try but at the end of the day, I want everybody to keep faith, victory is ours.”

The member of Labour Party presidential campaign council in the FCT also said, even with the alleged N200 billion earmarked by the presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Tinubu will not affect Obi’s performance at the election.

“They are doing everything possible to make sure that they stifle the support base of Peter Obi in Lagos, but at the end of the day, they will fail just as in every other way they have been failing, they will fail.”

Also speaking, the FCT Publicity Secretary of LP and Chairman of the local organising committee for this presidential rally, Chief Eyisi Okey Nwoke said other presidential candidates  will be denied the  required 25% in the nation’s capital.

Section 134 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended provides that: “(1) A candidate for an election to the office of President shall be deemed to have been duly elected, where, there being only two candidates for the election –

(a) he has the majority of votes cast at the election; and

(b) he has not less than one-quarter (25%) of the votes cast at the election in each of at least two-thirds of all the States in the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.”

The FCT Labour Party spokesperson said: “It is very clear to discerning minds that in FCT, we will deny other presidential candidates of 25%. That is what we are determined to do to show you how serious we are. It is a resolution that we have made and that resolution is backed by the people of FCT.

“We have moved around the six area councils in the FCT and we are still going to the nooks and crannies of FCT. We are meeting different ethnic nationalities, groups, leaders. We have the largest support groups ever in Nigeria and they are all self motivated and self sustaining. That is the point.

“Everybody who is not in Labour Party in present Nigeria is dislodged, is crippled politically, that’s the point. Never in the history of Nigerian politics, do you find citizens raising funds to support candidates. Not only Peter Obi, they support all (our candidates) over the place with their hard earned resources.

“That is the kind of massive hope they thrust on our candidates, it has never happened before. So, any other candidate who is going around saying he is running or claiming to be an incumbent, it is over. What you are seeing is partly campaign and partly celebration.”
