NAWOJ Polls: FCT endorses Blueprint editor, Chizoba Ogbeche, others

As campaigns towards the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) November 24, 2023 Triennial Delegates Conference get underway, the Federal Capital Territory council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ-FCT) has passed a vote of confidence on its candidates in the elections, Chizoba Ogbeche of Blueprint Newspapers, and Ladi Bala of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA).

Secretary of NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Ochiake Ugwu, and NAWOJ FCT Chapter Chairperson, Comrade Anne Daniel, endorsed the candidates, on Saturday in Abuja, during the flag-off of re-election campaign of the NAWOJ National President, Ladi Bala, at the council secretariat.

The NAWOJ chairperson noted that following decision reached during the chapter’s Congress held on October 28, 2023 where the candidates were adopted, NAWOJ FCT was hosting the delegates’ conference with the slogan: Hosting to Win.

She urged other states, especially within the North Central geo-political region to support and vote the chapter’s candidate for the position of Vice-President Zone D, Chizoba Ogbeche.

Also, speaking, the NUJ Council secretary noted that the FCT was going to the elections with two candidates for president and vice-president of Zone D.

He maintained that the NUJ would provide all the needed support to NAWOJ FCT to ensure their candidates emerged victorious, adding that victory for NAWOJ FCT was also victory for NUJ FCT Council.

Similarly, three former NAWOJ Presidents,Chief Moji Makanjuola, Kande Daniel, and Evelyn Onyilo, also gave their blessings and support to the candidates.

The former presidents who pledged support for Comrades Bala and Ogbeche, urged them to remain focused and shun politics of rancour and acrimony.

Earlier, the Chairperson, NAWOJ Plateau state, Nene Dung, who represented the National Coordinator, Ladi Bala Campaign, also endorsed the candidates and urged NAWOJians to stand up for the truth and not be distracted by propaganda.

Also, speaking the Chairperson, Niger state, Hajiya Rabi Bello, assured the duo of the chapter’s support.

According to her, “We will support FCT NAWOJ. We will support you to host and win the same way we hosted three years ago and won the position of Secretary Zone D.”

Chairperson, NAWOJ Adamawa state, Rose Elishama, who also rallied support for the candidates, noted that though Adamawa cannot vote in the election of officers for the North Central, they would convince their friends and colleagues in the zone to vote for the FCT candidate, Ogbeche.

Addressing journalists, the VP candidate for Zone D urged NAWOJians in the zone to sustain the camaraderie they share, just as she harped on the need for members to improve themselves professionally in order to compete favourably with their male colleagues.The candidate, who assured that she would ensure a more vibrant Zone D through effective representation and participation of members in the Association’s activities, noted that she was bringing her experience as former secretary and financial secretary of NAWOJ FCT as well as membership of several committees at both state and national level.
