Police confirm court release of detained businessman

The police in Imo State have confirmed that the Chief Executive Officer of TMT Travels and Tours Limited, Dr Ifeanyi Onukwubiri, has been granted bail by a magistrate court in Owerri, the state capital.

The Spokesperson for the police in the state, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed in a statement in Owerri on Monday that the businessman was granted bail by the court after he was arraigned by police in the state on the orders of the State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma.

According to Okoye, Onukwubiri, was released to a reliable surety inline with the directives of the court, adding that the matter has been adjourned to January 21 for hearing.

The statement reads “the Imo State Police Command wishes to provide an update on the ongoing investigation into allegations of visa fraud and obtaining money under false pretence involving TMT Travels & Tours Ltd, as earlier communicated in the Press Release of 28th November, 2025.

“Following the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, the Monitoring Unit concluded its investigation and charged the matter to court. On 4th December, 2025, the suspect, who is the CEO of the company, was arraigned with the appropriate charges at the Magistrate Court, Owerri.

“The court granted the suspect bail, and he was released to a reliable surety in line with the conditions set by the court. The case was thereafter adjourned to 21st January, 2026, for further hearing.

“Complainants are advised to follow up in court or contact the company through lawful channels regarding their individual claims, as the matter is now before the court.

“The Command reassures Imolites of its commitment to justice, transparency, and the protection of the public from all forms of fraudulent activity. Further updates will be provided as the case progresses.”

In a brief statement after his release, Onukwubiri, disclosed that his company is committed to amicable resolution of the matter between him and the company’s aggrieved clients.

Onukwubiri, stated that TMT Travels and Tours Limited would continue to improves its communications skills with its clients, saying that the interest of its clients would continue to be the top priority of the company.
