APC G3 dismisses Momodu’s claim, says governors solidly behind Tinubu

The APC Grassroots Governance Group (APC G3) has dismissed claims by veteran journalist and politician Dele Momodu that governors publicly supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are privately hoping he loses a second-term bid, describing the assertion as mere wishful thinking.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Amechi Chuks Oyema, the group said Momodu’s comments were disconnected from the prevailing political realities across the country and failed to reflect the level of support President Tinubu currently enjoys among governors and political stakeholders.

The group argued that governors backing the President are doing so out of conviction and appreciation of the administration’s policies rather than out of political convenience as alleged by Momodu.

APC G3 maintained that President Tinubu’s government has demonstrated uncommon courage in implementing reforms aimed at addressing long-standing economic and governance challenges, adding that many state governors recognize and support these efforts.

According to the group, Momodu’s remarks were intended to create an impression of division within the political establishment where none exists.

The organization further contended that the real political challenge lies with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and his supporters, especially regarding concerns over the nation’s unwritten understanding on rotational presidency between the North and the South.

The group stated that many influential political leaders and stakeholders in Northern Nigeria remain committed to preserving national balance and political stability through adherence to the principle of power rotation.

It argued that attempts to undermine the arrangement could generate unnecessary political tensions and weaken the spirit of inclusiveness that has helped sustain Nigeria’s democratic journey.

APC G3 also claimed that Atiku faces significant political hurdles across Southern Nigeria, the Middle Belt and even in the core North where he views as his constituency and seek to represent above other Nigerians, insisting that political realities in those regions do not favour his future presidential ambitions.

The group said governors across the federation have continued to maintain cordial working relationships with the Tinubu administration because of policies that have strengthened state finances and expanded opportunities for development.

According to the statement, many governors are satisfied with the level of engagement between the federal and state governments and see the administration as a dependable partner in addressing developmental challenges.

While urging opposition figures to focus on constructive contributions to national development, APC G3 insisted that President Tinubu’s support base remains strong and that Nigerians would ultimately judge political leaders based on performance, reforms, and their ability to deliver tangible benefits to citizens rather than on political speculation.

The group expressed confidence that the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda would continue to attract support across the country as the administration pursues its economic and governance objectives.
