Security forces of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled coordinated terrorist assaults aimed at overrunning military positions in Konduga, Marte, Jakana and Mainok during a fierce overnight engagement that lasted several hours.
The attackers launched simultaneous strikes between 10:30 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., but troops mounted determined resistance and maintained their defensive positions.
Reinforcement units executed tactical flanking manoeuvres that disorganised the insurgents and forced them to withdraw. In isolated instances where breaches occurred, soldiers counter-attacked and swiftly restored control. Security officials confirmed that several insurgent leaders and commanders were neutralised, with additional fighters eliminated during the counter-offensive.
According to a statement issued by media information officer Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, precision air strikes were coordinated with ground forces to target fleeing militants and hostile positions. The operations further degraded insurgent capabilities, and exploitation teams continue to recover weapons and equipment from the battle sites. Authorities acknowledged structural damage in some areas but stressed that all military installations remain under government control.
Officials described the failed assault as evidence of growing pressure on terrorist networks, noting that the swift response of troops prevented significant security breaches and protected civilian communities. Operations in the theatre will continue to dismantle insurgent capabilities and restore lasting peace.
Regrettably, the engagement resulted in casualties among the forces, including a senior officer who fell while leading troops in defence of their positions. Military sources described his sacrifice as a reflection of the dedication and professionalism of personnel serving the nation.
Residents in affected communities have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies as operations continue.
