President of the 9th Senate, Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, has been honoured with a Leadership Award of Excellence as the Best Performing Senator by the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, Yobe State Chapter.
The award was presented to him on Friday during a recognition ceremony organized by the transport union in Yobe State, according to a press statement signed by Ezrel Tabiowo, Media Adviser to Senator Lawan, over the weekend.
Senator Lawan, who currently represents Yobe North Senatorial District, dedicated the award to his constituents. He said the recognition reflects the collective aspirations of the people who gave him the mandate to serve.
“I dedicate this honour to the good people of Yobe North, who have given me the mandate and the platform to serve in my capacity as the senator representing the Senatorial District,” Lawan said.
The former Senate President expressed gratitude to the Yobe State Executive Chairman of RTEAN, Hon. Isyaku Yusuf Gashu’a, the Executive Council, and the entire membership of the association for finding him worthy of the honour.
Reflecting on the significance of the award, Senator Lawan linked it to his legislative focus on infrastructure and connectivity. He said road development has remained a priority in Yobe North.
“In Yobe North, we have prioritized the construction and rehabilitation of interstate and township roads because we understand that mobility is the lifeline of commerce and even physical security,” he stated.
Lawan explained that without passable roads, the transport sector cannot thrive and the economy cannot grow as required. He added that bad roads also compromise security within towns, settlements and inter-state routes.
Beyond roads, the Senator highlighted his commitment to economic empowerment through the distribution of buses and other vehicles for commuter services to constituents and organizations.
He said the initiative was designed to integrate transport workers into the formal economy, provide sustainable livelihoods, and ease the movement of people across the state and beyond.
Senator Lawan also commended the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as unprecedented interventions in Yobe North and Yobe State.
“We never had so much intervention by the Federal Government as we had in the last eleven years. Recently, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, approved over nine billion Naira to continue with rehabilitation work on the Gashua to Bayamari road. We thank you, Mr. President,” Lawan said. He described RTEAN members as the engine room of the local economy and said the award would challenge him to do more.
